Can you find a moment of peace and quiet?

Almost half of us believe that in today's modern world true silence is impossible to find. In a survey by appliance manufacturer, Whirlpool, has found that the UK is a nation that prefers peace to partying.

Psychologist, Becky Spelman, says, "While anyone can tolerate a certain amount of noise for short periods of time, when intrusive noises are persistent they can impact on both our mental and our physical health. Stress levels soar when people have to live with persistent loud or irritating noises, and when stress levels soar, mental health conditions, such as depression, anxiety, and much more, as well as physical health conditions related to elevated rates of cortisol and adrenaline, can be caused or exacerbated."

The survey found that 43% of 1,500 Brits would prefer a night in on the sofa than a night out on the tiles.
